Katsinas 

Edgar Orlaineta’s Katsinas reference the wooden dolls “Kachinas” originally made in  communities from the Southwest of USA as ritual objects. Orlaineta discovered these traditional  effigies while researching American mid-century design, specifically Charles and Ray Eames and  Alexander Girard's work. These three designers collected themselves kachinas. He used a lathe  to form the wood and later he decorated them with thread; with this previous experience, the  result in glass was very easy to imagine for him. After, for the glass sculpts, he thought on  making a modular object something that can be moved, displayed in different ways and that  could be combined or arranged in different ways. With this glass pieces, Orlaineta wanted to  acknowledge the native American culture of the Hopi and Zuni Pueblos, without appropriating  their art.

Katsinas

에드가 오를라이네타의 Katsinas는 미국 남서부 지역 원주민 공동체에서 의식용으로 제작된 나무 인형 Kachinas에서 영감을 받은 작품이다. 오를라이네타는 찰스와 레이 이임스, 알렉산더 기라드의 작업을 연구하던 중 이 전통적인 조각들을 발견했다. 이 세 디자이너들도 Kachinas를 수집한 바가 있다. 오를라이네타는 나무를 선반으로 가공하고 이후 실로 장식하는 경험을 바탕으로 유리로 만든 결과를 예상하기가 쉬웠기 때문에 유리 조각들을 모듈형 객체로 만들어, 이동할 수 있고, 다양한 방식으로 전시되며, 서로 결합하거나 배열할 수 있는 형태를 고민했다. 이러한 유리 조각들을 통해 오를라이네타는 호피와 주니 부족의 미국 원주민 문화에 대한 경의를 표하고, 그들의 예술을 단순히 도용하지 않고 인정하고자 했다.
