Young Mexican artist Néstor Jiménez addresses pressing social issues, examining urban life as a complex system of interconnections. His visual language draws on the traditions of Mexican muralism, but reinterprets them in the context of today's political and urban realities. The works featured in the exhibition are dominated by forms reminiscent of neo-Brutalist architecture and a palette primarily limited to shades of blue ochre. The buildings appear anthropomorphic, as if endowed with corporeality. Their walls bend, towers lean, and facades transform into figures, creating the image of a city capable of observing, remembering, and reacting to events. The urban landscape takes on the characteristics of a sentient being and becomes a witness to political history and social upheaval.
Jiménez's work is objective, but always grounded in specific ideas. He describes it this way: "For me, painting is the result of a conceptual exercise on the subject of complex social phenomena, generating a range of meanings. "It's not just the object that's important, but also the environment in which it exists." Concrete, old boards, and construction debris collected from the mass housing developments on the outskirts of Mexico City literally serve as the basis for his paintings—both physical and symbolic. These materials seem to bear the weight of ideological and social ambitions and tell the story of ordinary people with their precarious lives, hard work, and dreams of a more just society.
Mexican artist Néstor Jiménez, born in 1988, graduated from the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City and actively participates in exhibition projects at home and abroad. Over the years, the author's works have been presented in leading cultural institutions of the Mexican capital, including as part of the exhibitions "Prelude to Separation" (Border Cultural Center), "Act of Good Will" (Nixon Gallery), "Parasitism, Black Noises" and "Reactive Painting" (Carrillo Gil Art Museum), TROMBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, MUAC), "Avers" (Museum of Art and Science of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, MUCA Roma), "The Importance of Being Self-Sufficient" (Proyectos Monclova Gallery) and "Barbarian Mexico" (Siqueiros Gallery of Monumental Art).
El joven artista mexicano Néstor Jiménez aborda problemáticas sociales urgentes, examinando la vida urbana como un sistema complejo de interconexiones. Su lenguaje visual retoma las tradiciones del muralismo mexicano, pero las reinterpreta en el contexto de las realidades políticas y urbanas actuales. Las obras presentadas en la exposición están dominadas por formas que recuerdan a la arquitectura neobrutalista y por una paleta limitada principalmente a tonos de azul y ocre.
Los edificios adquieren rasgos antropomórficos, como si estuvieran dotados de corporalidad. Sus muros se curvan, las torres se inclinan y las fachadas se transforman en figuras, creando la imagen de una ciudad capaz de observar, recordar y reaccionar a los acontecimientos. El paisaje urbano adopta características de un ser sensible y se convierte en testigo de la historia política y de los conflictos sociales.
La obra de Jiménez es objetiva, pero siempre está anclada en ideas específicas. Él mismo lo describe así: “Para mí, la pintura es el resultado de un ejercicio conceptual sobre fenómenos sociales complejos, que genera una gama de significados. No solo importa el objeto, sino también el entorno en el que existe.”
El concreto, las tablas viejas y los residuos de construcción recolectados en conjuntos habitacionales de la periferia de la Ciudad de México sirven literalmente como base para sus pinturas, tanto física como simbólicamente. Estos materiales parecen cargar el peso de ambiciones ideológicas y sociales, y narran la historia de personas comunes, con vidas precarias, trabajo arduo y sueños de una sociedad más justa.
El artista mexicano Néstor Jiménez, nacido en 1988, es egresado de la Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda” en la Ciudad de México, y participa activamente en proyectos expositivos tanto en México como en el extranjero. A lo largo de los años, su obra ha sido presentada en importantes instituciones culturales de la capital mexicana, incluyendo exposiciones como “Prelude to Separation” (Centro Cultural Border), “Act of Good Will” (Nixon Gallery), “Parasitism, Black Noises” y “Reactive Painting” (Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil), TROMBA (Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, MUAC), “Avers” (Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Arte, MUCA Roma), “The Importance of Being Self-Sufficient” (Galería Proyectos Monclova) y “Barbarian Mexico” (Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros).
