A World Far Away, Nearby and Invisible invites viewers on a journey through selected works from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection that explore and reimagine the complex, multifaceted idea of territory. The exhibition moves from a conception of territory as layered, tangible ground to one rooted in primordial, earthbound forces—celebrating it as a space where the symbolic and the dreamlike converge. Organized into four chapters, the exhibition weaves together narratives that portray territory as a shared space of affection, magic, and community, where legends and myths meet. These stories form a tapestry of metaphors that, in the words of Mazatec shaman María Sabina, evoke a world that is far away, nearby, and invisible all at once.
The works on view at El Espacio 23 suggest territory as a vital force: a living, shifting organism, a refuge, a site of purification, and a space for meaning. In contrast, the landscape emerges as a cultural construct: a subjective gaze that, through aestheticization, fragments and categorizes territory in order to name it. Curated by Claudia Segura Campins in dialogue with curators of the Pérez Collection, Patricia M. Hanna and Anelys Alvarez, A World Far Away, Nearby, and Invisible becomes a dialogue between physical substance and symbolic resonance. Within this conceptual frame, territory is rendered in sharp, unembellished clarity, revealing its political, performative, and transformative dimensions.
Un Mundo Lejano, Cercano e Invisible invita a los espectadores a un recorrido por obras seleccionadas de la Colección Jorge M. Pérez que exploran y reimaginan la compleja y multifacética idea del territorio. La exposición pasa de una concepción del territorio como un terreno estratificado y tangible a una arraigada en fuerzas primordiales y terrenales, celebrándolo como un espacio donde convergen lo simbólico y lo onírico. Organizada en cuatro capítulos, la exposición entrelaza narrativas que retratan el territorio como un espacio compartido de afecto, magia y comunidad, donde se encuentran leyendas y mitos. Estas historias forman un tapiz de metáforas que, en palabras de la chamana mazateca María Sabina, evocan un mundo lejano, cercano e invisible a la vez.
Las obras expuestas en El Espacio 23 sugieren el territorio como una fuerza vital: un organismo vivo y cambiante, un refugio, un lugar de purificación y un espacio de significado. En contraste, el paisaje emerge como una construcción cultural: una mirada subjetiva que, mediante la estetización, fragmenta y categoriza el territorio para nombrarlo. Curada por Claudia Segura Campins en diálogo con las curadoras de la Colección Pérez, Patricia M. Hanna y Anelys Álvarez, Un mundo lejano, cercano e invisible se convierte en un diálogo entre la sustancia física y la resonancia simbólica. Dentro de este marco conceptual, el territorio se presenta con una claridad nítida y sin adornos, revelando sus dimensiones políticas, performativas y transformadoras.
