The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), through the Carrillo Gil Art Museum (MACG), present the exhibition Contemporary Art at the Carrillo Gil.
The exhibition Contemporary Art at the Carrillo Gil. Memoria de las exposiciones 1974 - 2024 reviews the trajectory of the MACG since its founding in 1974. This exhibition is part of the program developed as part of the museum's 50th anniversary, which began in August 2024 with a reading of the modern art collection. The exhibition that now opens comes from a research conducted at the Documentation Center and is articulated from the archives that this space keeps, which contain the memory of many of the exhibitions, as well as the traces of programs, curatorial exercises and emblematic moments that have contributed to outline the identity of the MACG in the contemporary art scene, making it a fundamental space for artistic experimentation and critical thinking.
The exhibition, located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the museum, presents a journey through the milestones and programs that have defined its history through archival materials and a selection of works from the museum's collection, as well as from other institutions and public and private collections.
Given the impossibility of telling an absolute and impartial story, the museum relies on the material remains stored in its archives as a guide for the elaboration of a possible narrative that reveals the experimental and daring spirit that has characterized the Museo Carrillo Gil since its founding. Photographs, documents and other testimonies will show the place that the MACG has occupied in the formation of new generations of artists, curators and cultural managers.
La Secretaría de Cultura del Gobierno de México y el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), a través del Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (MACG), presentan la exposición Arte Contemporáneo en el Carrillo Gil.
La exposición Arte contemporáneo en el Carrillo Gil. Memoria de las exposiciones 1974 - 2024 revisa la trayectoria del MACG desde su fundación en 1974. Esta exposición forma parte del programa desarrollado en el marco del 50° aniversario del museo, que comenzó en agosto de 2024 con una lectura de la colección de arte moderno. La muestra que ahora se inaugura proviene de una investigación realizada en el Centro de Documentación y se articula a partir de los archivos que ese espacio resguarda, los cuales contienen la memoria de buena parte de las exposiciones, así como los rastros de programas, ejercicios curatoriales y momentos emblemáticos que han contribuido a perfilar la identidad del MACG en la escena del arte contemporáneo, convirtiéndolo en un espacio fundamental para la experimentación artística y el pensamiento crítico.
La muestra, ubicada en los pisos 2 y 3 del museo, presenta un recorrido por los hitos y programas que han definido su historia a través de materiales de archivo y una selección de obras que provienen del acervo del museo, así como de otras instituciones y colecciones públicas y privadas.
Ante la imposibilidad de contar una historia absoluta e imparcial, el museo apuesta por los restos materiales que resguarda en sus archivos como guía para la elaboración de un posible relato en el que se revela el espíritu experimental y arriesgado que ha caracterizado al Museo Carrillo Gil desde su fundación. Fotografías, documentos y otros testimonios darán cuenta del lugar que el MACG ha ocupado en la formación de nuevas generaciones de artistas, curadores y gestores culturales.
