The University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC) begins its 2026 activities with a multidisciplinary program. The UNAM venue will open two major exhibitions on February 7. These shows mark the beginning of a program focused on the history of dissident art and emerging talent.
Art and collectivity in Mexico
The first exhibition is titled "Groups and Other Artistic Revolts: Networks and Collectives in Mexico 1976–1985 ." This exhibition is the result of more than three years of research. The project was supported by the Institute of Aesthetic Research (IIE) and the Postgraduate Program in Art History at UNAM. The work explores the creative networks that challenged institutional norms in the 1970s and 1980s.
Support for new creators
The museum will also inaugurate the exhibition Néstor Jiménez: One Among Millions . This exhibition is part of the program supporting artists under 40. With this initiative, MUAC maintains its commitment to new generations of creators. In addition, the museum will present the group exhibition From the Threshold . This exhibition addresses ecology and sustainability from a cross-cutting and critical perspective.
Training and academic dialogue
The program includes the seminar "Groups and Militant Pedagogies ." Dr. Mónica Amieva will lead these sessions from February 4 to May 27, 2026. The course will analyze the relationship between art, participation, and educational critique.
On the other hand, the Expanded Campus program will offer seminars on feminism, human rights, and environmental activism. The museum will also strengthen its community ties through the MUAC Link program. This initiative seeks to integrate university students with the general public through artistic mediation.
El Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) inicia sus actividades de 2026 con una oferta multidisciplinaria. El recinto de la UNAM abrirá dos exposiciones principales el próximo 7 de febrero. Estas muestras marcan el comienzo de una agenda centrada en la historia del arte disidente y el talento joven.
Arte y colectividad en México
La primera exhibición se titula Los grupos y otras revueltas artísticas. Redes y colectividades en México 1976-1985. Esta muestra resulta de una investigación de más de tres años. El proyecto contó con el apoyo del Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas (IIE) y el Posgrado en Historia del Arte de la UNAM. La obra explora las redes creativas que desafiaron las normas institucionales en las décadas de los setenta y ochenta.
Impulso a los nuevos creadores
El museo también inaugurará la muestra Néstor Jiménez. Uno entre millones. Esta exposición forma parte del programa de apoyo a artistas menores de 40 años. Con esta iniciativa, el MUAC mantiene su compromiso con las nuevas generaciones de creadores. Además, el recinto presentará la exhibición colectiva Desde el umbral. Esta propuesta aborda la ecología y la sustentabilidad desde una perspectiva transversal y crítica.
Formación y diálogo académico
La programación incluye el seminario Los grupos y las pedagogías militantes. La doctora Mónica Amieva impartirá estas sesiones del 4 de febrero al 27 de mayo de 2026. El curso analizará la relación entre el arte, la participación y la crítica educativa.
Por otro lado, el programa Campus Expandido ofrecerá seminarios sobre feminismos, derechos humanos y activismo ambiental. El museo también fortalecerá su vínculo social mediante el programa Enlace MUAC. Esta iniciativa busca integrar a los estudiantes universitarios con el público general a través de la mediación artística.
