The exhibition at the Amparo Museum brings together works from the artist's recent output, highlighting the repetition of motifs in her personal and artistic explorations and developing a dialogue with the issues of migration, borders, and boundaries. The pieces in the first room allude to geographic space with a series of photographs from 2023 and a set of scented bottles. The photos depict faint or bright clouds appearing in the sky to remind us of the condition of movement, a phenomenon of change intrinsic to these formations. The photos are also accompanied by a caption indicating the place and time they were captured. Always in a diptych format, the pieces indicate that one was photographed in "Tecate, Baja California" and the other in "Tecate, California, United States." The minutes of difference between one photograph and the next remind us of the relativity of time and the fragility of the idea of the border: ultimately, we all live under the same sky. Another piece in this room displays six small bottles on a pedestal containing distillates of various chemical components found around the Tijuana-San Diego border crossing. This piece was created in collaboration with research chemists from the Autonomous University of Baja California, who found aromatic components in the air associated with food, the environment, and vegetation, revealing another way of understanding the border, in this case as an environment to be inhabited.
Other Ghost Stories can be visited until June 10, 2024, at the Amparo Museum in Puebla.
La exposición enel Museo Amparo reúne obras de los últimos años de producción de la artista,poniendo en evidencia la repetición de motivos en sus exploraciones personalesy artísticas y desarrollando un diálogo con las problemáticas de la migración,las fronteras y los límites. Las piezas de la primera sala aluden al espaciogeográfico con una serie de fotografías de 2023 y un conjunto de frascos conaromas. Las fotos retratan nubes tenues o brillantes que aparecen en el cielopara recordarnos la condición de movimiento, un fenómeno de cambio intrínsecoen estas formaciones. Las fotos además están acompañadas por una leyenda queindica el lugar y la hora en que fueron capturadas. Siempre en díptico, laspiezas indican que se han fotografiado una en “Tecate, Baja California” y otraen “Tecate, California, Estados Unidos”. Los minutos de diferencia entre unafotografía y otra nos recuerdan la relatividad del tiempo y la fragilidad de laidea de la frontera: finalmente, todos y todas vivimos bajo un mismo cielo.Otra de las piezas de esta sala presenta sobre un pedestal seis frasquitos condestilados de diversos componentes químicos que se encuentran alrededor delcruce entre Tijuana y San Diego. Esta pieza la hizo en colaboración conquímicos investigadores de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, quienesencontraron en el aire componentes de aromas pertenecientes a la alimentación,el medio ambiente y la vegetación, mostrando otra manera de entender lafrontera, en este caso como un ambiente por habitar.
