The exhibition presents works by Mexican and foreign artists—fundamental to current art—who lived and worked in Mexico during the 1980s and early 1990s. His works arise from experiences marked by exile, as well as from reflections on the archaeological past, the historical landscape, the vernacular and the sociocultural phenomena of the time.
On the 45th anniversary of the Tamayo Museum, Before the eclipse. Archaeologies of art in Mexico establishes a dialogue with the thought of Rufino Tamayo and the first decade of the museum, and represents an effort to reconsider the decisive role of history in the ways of making and imagining art today.

La muestra presenta obras de artistas mexicanos y extranjeros —fundamentales para el arte actual— que vivieron y trabajaron en México durante los años ochenta y principios de los noventa. Sus obras surgen de experiencias marcadas por el exilio, así como por reflexiones sobre el pasado arqueológico, el paisaje histórico, lo vernáculo y los fenómenos socioculturales de la época.
En el 45 aniversario del Museo Tamayo, Ante el eclipse. Arqueologías del arte en México establece un diálogo con el pensamiento de Rufino Tamayo y la primera década del museo, y representa un esfuerzo por reconsiderar el papel decisivo de la historia en las formas de hacer e imaginar el arte en la actualidad.
